OUR SELF-CATERING CHALETS

Comfortable Accommodation with Everything You Need

Shamba Yetu has two self-catering chalets: Sungura and Punda Melia. Both are spacious, well-equipped, and set up for guests who want the freedom to self-cater whilst having all the comforts of home.

These aren’t fancy resorts. They’re clean, comfortable, properly equipped chalets in a beautiful bushveld setting. Everything works, everything’s maintained, and you’ll have what you need for a good stay.

ACCOMMODATION FEATURES

Bedrooms

The Bedrooms

Two bedrooms in each chalet, both with queen beds and decent mattresses. You’ll actually sleep well. There’s storage space for your stuff, fans for summer nights, and the linen’s all provided (we change it during your stay).

The rooms get good light and you can hear the birds in the morning. If you like fresh air, open the windows. If you prefer it sealed up with the fan on, that works too.

What’s Provided:

  • Queen-sized beds with quality mattresses
  • Fresh linen
  • Bath towels and hand towels
  • Electric blankets during winter
  • Built-in storage and hanging space
  • Ceiling fans

Note: Bring your own swimming towels

The Kitchen - Fully Equipped

Living Area

Open-plan setup so the kitchen, dining, and lounge all flow together. Big windows bring in the mountain views. There’s a couch for relaxing, a TV, and a dining table for meals.

Entertainment:

  • Smart TVs so guests can log in to their own streaming platforms.
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Comfortable seating
  • Dining area

The Patio - Your Outdoor Space

This is where you’ll spend most of your time when you’re at the chalet. Each chalet has a private patio with:

Built-In Braai Area:

  • Braai stand with grid
  • Prep space
  • Seating area under cover
  • Lighting for evening use
  • Everything you need for a proper South African braai

Fire Pit: Separate from the braai, for when you want an actual fire to sit around. Bring marshmallows, tell stories, watch the stars come out. Very good for winter evenings.

Splash Pools: Both Punda Melia and Sungura chalets have their own private splash pools. Not Olympic-sized, but perfect for cooling off on hot days. Sun loungers provided and completely private.

Note: The pools are not heated-they warm up in the sun. Fine for summer, too cold for winter swimming.

The Kitchen - Fully Equipped

This is a proper kitchen, not some half-hearted kitchenette. If you like cooking on holiday, you’ll be happy here.

Appliances:

  • Full fridge-freezer
  • Four-plate stove with oven
  • Microwave
  • Kettle and toaster
  • Two-plate gas stove (for when the power’s out)

Equipment:

  • All the pots, pans, and utensils you need
  • Plates, bowls, mugs, glasses for at least 6 people
  • Sharp knives and a cutting board
  • Dish soap and cloths
  • Cooking utensils and serving ware

Basically, if you can cook it at home, you can cook it here. The nearest shops are in Magaliesburg (15 minutes) where there’s a Spar and a butchery. Rustenburg (30 minutes) has bigger supermarkets if you need more options.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms

Each chalet has a proper bathroom with everything you need:

  • Shower with hot water on demand
  • Flush toilet

Clean, functional, and well-maintained.

Note: Punda Melia’s Bathroom and shower is separate from the unit.

Families

  • Full kitchen for preparing familiar meals
  • Patio and outdoor space for kids to play
  • Wildlife spotting from your chalet

  • Quiet time together in nature
  • Bird watching and bushveld walks

Longer Stays

If you’re staying a week or more, having a proper kitchen and your own space makes a big difference. You’re not eating out every meal and you can actually relax into the place.

What Makes It Work:

  • Full self-catering facilities
  • Daily cleaning so you don’t have to
  • Enough space to not feel cramped
  • Your own outdoor braai area
  • Comfortable for extended periods
