WHAT IS CAMP NGUVU?
One Place, Two Options
“Nguvu” means strength in Swahili, which fits because Camp Nguvu is set up properly-whether you choose a luxury tent or bring your own camping setup.
Camp Nguvu is one place on the Shamba Yetu property with:
- Two luxury en-suite safari tents for guests wanting beds and bathrooms in the bush
- A camping site with 5 stands for caravans, camping trailers and tents with shared facilities
Both options put you right in the bushveld where you’ll fall asleep to bush sounds and wake up with the birds.

Your Sleeping Space
The Beds Proper beds with quality mattresses. Not camp stretchers, not air mattresses-actual comfortable beds. Good pillows, quality linen that gets changed regularly, extra blankets if you need them in winter
Storage
Space for your bags, hooks for clothes, shelves for your bits and pieces. You won’t be living out of a suitcase on the floor.
The Tent Setup
These are safari-style tents, which means:
- High ceiling (you can stand up everywhere)
- Cement floor (solid and level)
- Mesh windows and doors (breeze without bugs)
- Roll-up sides when you want more air
- Canvas that handles rain just fine
- Bedside tables with lamps
It stays cooler than you’d think in summer and warmer than expected in winter. Canvas breathes, which helps.

THE EN-SUITE BATHROOM
Your Own Private Bathroom
This is what makes these tents different from normal camping. Each tent has its own private en-suite bathroom. Not shared with anyone, not a walk across the campsite in the dark.

It’s attached to the tent in its own structure. Simple, clean, functional. You can get up in the night and go to the loo without drama.
THE KITCHENETTE

Each luxury tent is self-catering with a fully equipped kitchenette:

- Two-plate gas stove (no electricity needed)
- Gas is provided
- Suitable for breakfast, braai prep, or full meals

The luxury tents are fully self-catering with all basic appliances. You can cook proper meals or just do breakfast and braai for dinner. Up to you. The nearest shop is Magaliesburg (15 minutes) for groceries.

Where You'll Spend Your Time
Outdoor Furniture
Each tent has outdoor furniture-table and chairs provided so you can sit outside during the day or evening. The tents don’t have patios or platforms, but they do have proper outdoor seating areas.
Fire Pit
Separate fire pit with chairs arranged around it. This is where evenings happen-sitting around the fire, watching stars, listening to the bush. Bring marshmallows.
Braai Area
Each tent has its own braai setup with:
- Braai stand with grid
- Prep space
- Seating area
- Everything you need for a proper South African braai
Splash Pools
- Each luxury tent has its own splash pool (galvanized pools that look like a dam). Perfect for cooling off during the day.
Firewood and Ice available for purchase on the property.

Luxury Tents:
Couples (Tent 1) Most people who book Tent 1 are couples. It’s private, romantic in a non-cheesy way, and being in the bush together is special. The fire pit under the stars does the work.
Small Families (Tent 2) Tent 2 sleeps 4 with the queen bed and two single beds, making it suitable for families who want to experience bush camping together with proper beds and an en-suite bathroom.
Friends Book both tents and you’ve got separate sleeping spaces but shared braai and fire pit times. Perfect for two couples traveling together.

WHAT TO EXPECT - THE REAL TALK
Sounds at Night
You will hear things. Crickets, frogs, birds, the wind, sometimes animals moving around. That’s the point. If you need complete silence to sleep, this might not work. But most people find bush sounds relaxing once they adjust.
It's Still Canvas & Camping
The luxury tents are canvas in the bushveld. Occasionally a bug gets in when you open the door. Sometimes there’s dust. The bathrooms are great but they’re not five-star hotel bathrooms. If you need everything perfect and pristine, book a chalet instead.
The camping site is proper camping – shared ablutions, bring your own setup. If you camp regularly, you know what to expect.
Weather Matters
Rain on canvas is actually amazing (very relaxing), and the tents handle it fine. But if there’s a massive storm, you’ll hear it. Summer can be hot during the day (shade and breeze help). Winter mornings are properly cold (but warm under the electric blankets in the tents).

- Gates must always be closed
- Self-drive game viewing is not permitted

Yes, you’re in the bushveld. Yes, animals are around. No, they don’t come into camp. The tents and camping site are safe. Wild animals generally avoid people. If you see something interesting, enjoy watching from a distance. Don’t be stupid and try to feed or approach anything.
